Craving more of Miles Teller in “Top Gun: Maverick”? Right this way. Paramount Pictures released never-before-seen footage of Teller’s Rooster belting out “Great Balls of Fire” with his fellow aviators, and goodness gracious, is it a treat. In the blockbuster, viewers only see snippets of Rooster’s performance cut between clips of Tom Cruise’s Maverick reminiscing on when he and Goose rocked out to the same Jerry Lee Lewis song in the original 1986 film.
The extended version opens with Rooster smashing the piano keys (yes, Teller was actually playing the instrument while filming) and crooning, “You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain. Too much love drives a man insane.” In a packed bar, his pals Phoenix (Monica Barbaro), Payback (Jay Ellis), Bob (Lewis Pullman), and other bar patrons dance and sing along. The moment is a nostalgic homage to Goose (Anthony Edwards), Maverick’s late copilot, and proves Rooster definitely followed in his dad’s musically talented footsteps.
Teller’s “Great Balls of Fire” rendition is just one of the many hits from the record-smashing movie’s soundtrack. Other popular songs include Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” and OneRepublic’s “I Ain’t Worried.”
